Acuity Guide to Self Assessment

It is a fundamental part of the self assessment system that responsibility lies with you, the taxpayer, to file Returns and pay the right amount of tax, at the right time – you must not wait for HMRC to ask.

For most people, HMRC will issue a notice to file a Tax Return covering income for the year ending 5 April 2022 on or after 6 April 2022.

The completed Return has to be submitted to HMRC by the ‘filing date’ (31 October 2022 for paper Returns, 31 January 2023 for Returns filed online).
